What is the Hair Loss Screening about?
This screening is designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of the internal factors that may be contributing to your hair loss. Hair thinning is rarely caused by a single issue. By assessing key biomarkers linked to hair growth, nutrition, hormones, inflammation, and overall health, we can help identify the underlying causes of your shedding and recommend targeted, evidence-based treatment.
Full Blood Count (FBC)
Screens for anaemia, infection, and blood disorders that may contribute to excessive hair shedding, fatigue, and impaired hair growth.
Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) & Anti-Nuclear Antibody (ANA)
Evaluates inflammation and screens for autoimmune conditions, such as lupus, which can sometimes present with hair loss as an early symptom.
Ferritin, Vitamin B12, Folate & Vitamin D
Assesses essential nutrients needed for healthy hair follicle function and normal hair growth cycles. Low ferritin (your body’s iron stores) is one of the most common and treatable causes of diffuse hair loss.
Testosterone & DHEAS
Measures androgen (male hormone) levels and adrenal hormone production. Elevated levels may contribute to androgenetic alopecia (pattern hair loss) or suggest an underlying hormonal condition such as PCOS.
Thyroid Function (TSH & Free T4)
Evaluates thyroid health. Both an underactive (hypothyroidism) and overactive (hyperthyroidism) thyroid can disrupt the hair growth cycle, leading to increased shedding and thinning.
Serum Zinc & Copper
Measures trace minerals that play important roles in hair follicle function, tissue repair, pigmentation, and hair strength.
Kidney Function (eGFR) & Electrolytes
Assesses overall kidney health and electrolyte balance. Chronic systemic illness or metabolic imbalances can indirectly affect hair quality and growth.
Preparation for Test
No food and drinks besides plain water 8-12 hours before the test.
