What is the Weight Management Screening About?
From your 30s onwards, subtle changes start to happen beneath the surface. Muscle mass gradually declines, even if your weight stays roughly the same. With less muscle, the body burns fewer calories, which can lead to changes in body shape and clothes fitting differently. This can make weight regain more likely after dieting.
At the same time, hormonal patterns such as PCOS or shifts around perimenopause can drive insulin resistance. This makes weight gain more stubborn and increases long-term metabolic risk, even when diet and exercise habits haven’t changed.
This screening is designed to look beneath the surface and understand why weight management may be getting harder. It helps identify hormonal and metabolic factors that can interfere with weight loss, many of which are treatable or modifiable. Understanding these drivers allows for a more effective and sustainable approach to weight management.
What the Blood Tests Look At
Hormones: These markers help screen for possible hormonal imbalances including conditions like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) that can disrupt metabolism.
Lipids and cholesterol: Cholesterol markers provide insight into heart health and metabolic risk, which often change alongside weight and hormonal shifts.
Liver Health: The liver plays a key role in metabolism. Conditions like fatty liver can affect how the body handles sugar and fat, making weight loss harder.
Thyroid Function: An under- or over-active thyroid can cause fatigue, weight changes, and low energy. These symptoms are often mistaken for menopause itself.
Insulin & Blood Sugar: Menopause can worsen insulin resistance, even without obvious symptoms. This can drive weight gain and make fat harder to lose.
Inflammation (hsCRP): Low-grade inflammation is linked to weight gain and heart disease. This marker gives insight into your baseline inflammatory health.
Body Composition Scan
This scan goes beyond the number on the weighing scale. It shows how much of your weight comes from fat, muscle, and deeper belly fat (visceral fat around the organs), which has a bigger impact on metabolism and long-term health.
This knowledge enables a more effective and realistic approach to weight loss, rather than relying on guesswork.
You will need to fast (no food and drinks besides plain water) for 8-12h prior to doing these tests.
